Applied online, creative assignment submission, Phone interview.
To begin with, creative assignment wasn't looked at. Questions on marketing tricks of Uber. A marketing idea for Uber - deadlock here. I gave an idea including Uber and companyX, was explaining the working of companX but the interviewer cut me short saying come straight to the idea. It was weird but anyhow I assumed she would be knowing the workings of companyX, hence jumped to the idea. It was here I came to know she didn't had much knowledge about the sector or companyX. Hence while I was trying to explain the idea, it was in this course of duration that she made out from my idea that the company worked differently than what she has presumed. I again had to explain the companyX, the idea and now she got it - post lots of repeated questions. She seemed in a hurry and was definitely inexperienced in hiring & job execution.
Had heard Uber had great employees, guess it might be in its headquarters, in my country and city, the lot was fairly inexperienced about the job and market knowledge, they seemed good at what Uber has been doing in the past and continuing it but seemed naive in understanding and executing new ideas. Brainstorming with a naive lot seemed difficult as per the phone interview experience, and letting yourself be heard to a bunch of guys not ready to listen is not my ideal view of a brainstorming session.
Got a No two days later - its weird I felt relieved since I had read about Uber going places, its employees, etc. and hence dearly wanted to work with it but looking at the local team here, it didn't seemed a good idea to invest hours in making others hear out the logic, market knowhow & the ideas when others don't wish to listen. Later came to know 3 people for the role I had applied for had already left the team and it was reduced to 8 now.
Uber is definitely a good place to work BUT do see the immediate team you will be working with - naive colleagues drain out a lot of energy than being productive :)
