First, it's an over the top online exam that seemed misaligned with the expectations of a project management role / career. This is followed by an intro round with HR then the hiring manager before the rest of the leadership team. I cannot stress, I expected much more from Amazon but also not surprised. It perfectly fits the narrative of a big tech firm that gives off an elite vibe and then you get to the actual interview and ask yourself, am I interviewing at the right place? The part that stood out the most besides the 2 hour exam they claimed was 1 hour, is that the hiring manager was completely unprepared. Didnt even want to get on camera even though I was sitting there in a suit and prepared for 48 hours by studying their leadership principles. The hiring manager had no questions prepared at all and started the meeting 5 minutes late because it was going to be a tag team interview with the VP. You know things are not going to go well when the hiring manager starts the meeting with "Lets stay off camera for today, I was contemplating this meeting since the VP and I did not have a chance to prepare and as a result I do not have any questions prepared for you today...." The hiring manager couldn't even answer the question, What's the metric for success in this role? A true fail Amazon, you lost a great potential candidate. Folks, just stop it. You want to be in the big leagues? Act like you are a top notch employer? Don't waste an applicants time. Then rather than follow up for another round I got a rejection even though honestly, I was done being interested in working for them. A true disappointment and a half.
