I applied online and heard back pretty quickly from the Head of Design asking for a coffee chat in the SF office. I was surprised because normally you go through a recruiter screen before you even get to talk to anyone from the design team, but I was glad to have the opportunity to visit the company and see what it was like from the start of the process. The chat went well and I was told that the next step would be a whiteboard challenge.
I came back to the office the following week for the whiteboard challenge. The prompt was about making public transportation less confusing and easier to use. I was interviewed by the Design Head and two other Design Managers. In the beginning I was very nervous, but my interviewers were welcoming and asked me interesting follow up questions to my ideas which got my creative juices flowing.
The last step of the process was a four-hour on-site with a portfolio review and some 1-on-1 interviews. I spoke with a variety of folks from different teams and it was great to talk with them and hear their stories. I heard back from a recruiter a week later with an offer!
Overall, I had a positive experience. The recruiting team especially were very friendly and easy to communicate with.
After I joined the company, I found out that the design team is very close knit and has a lot of fun together. I'm very grateful I got the opportunity to join forces with such a creative and driven team!

1st phone screen was directly with the head of design. Mostly a casual chat and some lecture about design at Reddit.
2nd interview was a whiteboarding exercise. I think I was denied because my final solution did not agree with the economic and political views of the company. I suggested that public goods should be free.

Recruiter communication is below par at best. Lack of engagement and interest to candidates within the pipeline. I had to reach out a number of times to touch base. The scheduling was also miscommunicated and had a few surprise sessions that weren’t on the official interview schedule.
The interviews themselves were quite engaging. It was with a series of cross-functional partners probing into different collaboration and leadership capabilities.
I was asked to do an additional interview, but I’ve still yet to hear back from the main recruiter or hiring manager about any decision made.
