Entrevista de User Experience Designer (HTML/CSS)

      Entrevista

I got contacted by a recruiter who told about an offer in Booking that sounded quite interesting, specially for its relocation package. I accepted to have a Skype call with her, which was very pleasant. A week after I got an invitation for a second interview that was meant to go more in-depth on my experience and some live coding. That second interview was pleasant and not as difficult as I thought it would be. The live coding was pretty basic so if you had used HTML/CSS before it shouldn't be any problem. Basically they show you a <div> with some classes attached to it, as well as an id and some inline styles. In addition, there are some styles written on the other part and you need to deduce which style is the more relevant (the one class that has !important, the one on the ID, the one that's inline). For the second part of the live coding you need to code a simple form, and they ask you more stuff about how to position the elements. Then, they ask you to propose ideas for the website, which I did. Each proposal will be questioned heavily, specially regarding measurability (what metrics would you use, how to implement AB testing on it) of its eventual success. As far as I know, I did perfectly. I know my coding and the test was as basic as it could get, also my experience is good enough to bring up some good ideas, but still they thought I was not up to their standards on that regard. Still, I think Booking is a great company and they salaries and bonuses are quite generous. It's a shame I didn't get the job but I hope good skilled people can get it.

Why is that label on your form not taking your width declaration? How can you remove your border from the fieldset? Why keep the button outside of the fieldset?

      What has more relevance style-wise?

How would you define the success of that new implementation? What metric would you use?

Applied through their website and was given a challenge to complete in 30 mins. I knew it would involve html and css skills but the challenge was ridiculous and irrelevant to UX design. Im glad I got to see what the job will invilve as it's not even what I would want to do everyday.

Quick code assessment, followed by screening call with a recruiter, followed by phone interview with two team members. The recruiter tries to anticipate what might be a challenge for you in the next round, and how to prepare. I was asked to present 3 ideas to improve the site, which seems like a lot for an interview. Seemed like I was doing well through the whole process until I received a rejection email after the phone interview. The reasons given for the rejection were a little vague and not reflective (in my opinion) of the work I presented. It was also surprising, given that the interviewers complimented my ideas as well as my technical ability. It gave the impression that they were just fishing for ideas to improve the site. I wouldn't be surprised to find the ideas I presented being implemented.

First was a simple test on HackerRank, followed by a phone interview with two employees. During that interview, there was another simple online test in real time. Just basic HTML & CSS. Easy. About a week later I got invited to Amsterdam for an in-person interview. HR manager was very helpful and friendly and assisted during the entire time, gave some valuable bits of advice about the interview process. I was asked to prepare 3 things I'd change on the Booking.com website, why and how I would measure the results. They booked the flights and hotel room for me. All was smooth and well organized. The interview was divided into 3 rounds with different employees. One technical, second more focused on your ability to think and solve problems, and the final one with lead designer. Everybody who I met at Booking.com during my visit was friendly and nice people.
