I was reached out by an internal GrubHub recruiter on LinkedIn. During the intro call, we talked about why I did not work in 2018 (I went traveling for a year). Recruiter then asked me which version of Java I have used. I said Java 6 as a developer and 8 as an engineering manager. The recruiter then said that he is very concerned on how up-to-date I am with modern technologies since GrubHub is using Java 9 (why not 10?), and the only reason he reached out to me was because of my 7 years of working experience in Amazon (both as SDE and SDM). It was funny because I mentioned nothing about my experience at Amazon during the call, but I dived into a few cool projects I lead and the 2 engineering teams I built at the startup after my time at Amazon. At the end, he said he will forward my resume to his colleague who is specialized in this area (what area?) and get back to me later.
This recruiter was clueless and ineffective.
