Architecture blends art with practical application, standing as a timeless symbol and lasting masterpiece. This fusion of creativity and utility is what inspires Zaamin, a senior at Olentangy Liberty High School, who aspires to become an architect. Recently, Zaamin had the opportunity to shadow our Columbus team, gaining invaluable hands-on experience in the delicate craft of architectural conservation from our seasoned professionals. At SSOE, we design and build more than structures—we build futures. And we offer a unique path tailored to you, complete with the tools and mentorship needed to make a lasting impact. #SSOEcolumbus #chooseSSOE
A toast to growth! We celebrated our recent expansion in Columbus with an open house event for some of our local clients and partners. Leadership traveled from across the U.S. to commemorate our growth in Ohio’s “Cap City” where we’ve proudly maintained a strong presence since 2008. Prior to our guests’ arrival, CEO Vince DiPofi—along with Chief Operating Officer Jeremy Woodgate and Columbus Business Leader Evan Baker—set the tone with an engaging town hall meeting for employees. The party started with the candied bacon and continued from there, with delicious hors d'oeuvres, hand-crafted refreshments, and great company to last until the early evening. #SSOEcolumbus #chooseSSOE
Providing the framework to succeed: Last month, our Automotive and Manufacturing Facilities South Division’s structural team gathered in Nashville for in-person collaboration. Employees from across seven U.S. states and two cities in Mexico came together to share their best practices and insights. They discussed their vision for the practice group and addressed current workloads, backlogs, and forecasts. Together, they charted a course for future technology development initiatives, leveraging automation, AI, and the latest software on the market. But we weren’t swept away with work—we ended the global collaboration day at Tee Line Nashville where we struck up some fun bowling and then slid into a friendly curling competition. #SSOEsoutheast #chooseSSOE
Honoring the past, building the future. Honoring the past, building the future. A partnership with our friends at Rudolph Libbe, the transformative renovation of Kenworth Truck Company's historic administration building is also a tribute to one of SSOE's founders—the "O" in SSOE, Burrie Otis—who originally designed it back in 1973. Recently celebrating Kenworth’s 50th anniversary in Chillicothe, Ohio, this project stands as our most ambitious for the U.S. truck manufacturer. We've designed 1 million SF of facilities on the Chillicothe campus across 36 projects since 1998, and this expansion is poised to be the largest-scale engineering endeavor yet. Commemorating our client’s milestone anniversary as we enjoyed the remaining days of our 75th year added an extra layer of significance.
Making every shot count! SSOE’s Mary Cobb, Deb Morgan, Melissa Malinowski, and Chelsea Kania teed off at the Cherry Street Masters Golf Outing on Monday, driving forward the objective to eradicate poverty with each swing. Not only did they represent our organization with distinction, but they also stood out as the event’s only all-women’s team—scoring big with wins for the longest drive, closest to the pin, and longest putt. Our partnership with the Cherry Street Mission Ministries goes beyond a single serve, fostering change both on the green and the community. Our Toledo employees regularly chip in their lunch hours to serve at the nonprofit, conveniently located within walking distance of our world headquarters. Over the past 15 years alone, we’ve contributed enough to feed, shelter, and care for 2,147 guests. At SSOE, elevating our communities is par for the course. #SSOEcares
Enhanced learning in time for back to school! Yesterday marked the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Toledo Public Schools Natural Science Technology Campus expansion / renovation project for which SSOE provided facility master planning, design, and engineering services. The design strategy focused on reconfiguring classrooms and support spaces to create flexible learning environments for enhanced 21st-century education and expanded grade levels. Major enhancements included two new additions, eight additional classrooms, new restroom facilities, and various infrastructure upgrades to both the interior and exterior. Our decades-long partnership with Toledo Public Schools encompasses not only design work but also hundreds of hours of volunteerism throughout the district. Principal Architect Bob Siebenaller quoted within. #PressRelease
Building backpacks, building futures! Employees from our Toledo office, including members of our local HR team and Employee Resource Groups, recently collaborated with Mercy Health and Cherry Legacy Neighbors to assemble backpacks for the “Let’s Get a Healthy Start” back-to-school event. Hosted by the Getting Healthy Zone, a community health initiative, this event provides free school supplies, resources for adults, and information about children’s health to ensure a successful start to the school year. The backpacks and supplies were funded through a diversity, equity, and inclusion grant from SSOE. #SSOEcares
Celebrating 76. Since August 8, 1948, we’ve been building solid relationships. Seven decades later, we’re still finding ways to impress our clients, colleagues, and communities. At the start, it was our ability to design a material handling system to convert a boiler plant from oil to coal. In 1959, it was a landmark graphitizing plant project in Monterrey Mexico. In the late 70’s, it was our venture into CAD with an initial investment of $1 million in an Intergraph CAD system that included 4 workstations and 300 million bytes of information. Today, we’re delivering colossal, data-driven projects around the world designed to scale and streamlined to offer value to our clients to the tune of over $2 billion since we started tracking in 2009. We’re a certified Great Place to Work, and our 1,500+ employees make it their mission to donate their time and talents to communities across the country and around the world. As we celebrate 76, we really celebrate our clients, colleagues, and communities because we couldn’t do any of this without you.
A motley crew of engineers, architects, and designers from our Building Design Group recently came together to support our long-time client, Marathon Petroleum Corporation, who hosted a golf outing at Sycamore Springs Golf Course near their Findlay, Ohio headquarters. Excitingly, one of our two foursomes secured the MPC Cup—making SSOE and Marathon’s winning partnership crystal clear. Speaking of Marathon’s headquarters, SSOE has been partnering with the downstream energy company on a campus-wide remodel program over the past couple years. So far, we’ve completed the renovation of two out of six floors of the Marketing Building featuring an innovative 6-pipe HVAC system, transformed nine out of 10 floors of the Marathon Building including converting its third floor into a central gathering spot, modern dining experience, and swanky remote workspace, and three out of nine floors of the Donnell Building (with more on the drafting board, coming soon). #chooseSSOE
Swinging into collaboration! Today, our Columbus team was able to tee off for an exciting Topgolf team-building event, courtesy of our office’s Employee Club. We spent a few hours enjoying golf games and camaraderie, followed by a delicious fajita feast and refreshing sodas. SSOE Employee Clubs, run by employees for employees, foster educational, social, and recreational activities to promote intra-office fellowship. Whether you’re a full-time, part-time, or contract employee, you automatically become a member and can immediately join in the various activities and programs offered. #SSOEcolumbus #chooseSSOE
