      Entrevista

Apart from a bit tough programming test, the remaining was a very relaxed procedure. The verbal questions asked are mostly to test your depth in different areas and being honest about the depth of your knowledge is apparently a good approach. The interview was conducted entirely in English and German skills are also appreciated. The offer made matched my requirements and the contract was prepared shortly.

1- Coding test: A nontrivial end-to-end application consist of three stages, simulating random data (producer), transforming data with spark-streaming (consumer), running multiple queries. (The whole thing should be dockerized). 2- One-hour technical interview. Unfortunately, it was a waste of time, and it was my worst experience so far! It was more like an interrogation than an interview! It was like they were already made their decision. I found the interviewer's behavior very unprofessional, unsatisfying, and outrageous. The guy was strangely looking for a rejection excuse from the start for an unknown reason. After answering a few related questions, it seemed that he doesn't have any specific questions in his mind, and he just kept asking random questions from my answers. The funny thing is that he didn't mention anything about the coding test at all! They truly waste your time with the coding test and it doesn't matter to them. If you truly respect yourself and your abilities do not apply for this company.

      - Coding test comprised of a full end-to-end solution (artificial data generation, data streaming, data processing and database querying). Basically a three component application: a streaming client, a Spark Streaming Job, and a SQL script with multiple queries. - One hour technical/management interview. Unfortunately, it was a waste of time, given that they lied about the position being remote. They advertised the role as being remote (note I said "remote", not "partially remote" nor "open to remote") on StackOverflow, but they never had the intention of hiring anyone remotely. They advertise their roles as being remote to attract applicants, then after you wasted your time going through the process, they try to coerce you to relocate and work on-site. After I pointed out that they were being dishonest, they tried to compromise on their lie, claiming that the role was actually "partially remote". But forget that they lied in the first place about the role being remote. Still, is it asking too much to let you know that they were not actually hiring remotely BEFORE you take the coding test? Very unconsidered and disrespectful people. I spent a whole weekend working on that coding test. They are sociopaths, truly malevolent people. Terrible communication skills as well. They write in broken English and take them nearly a week to reply to e-mails. I wouldn't be surprised if their inefficiency was due to pure incompetence and laziness, but I think that it's more likely that they were trying to manipulate me, that is, trying to probe if I was desperate enough to give in. At one point they actually tried to smear my skills to try to coerce me to relocate (even though I completed 100% of their coding test, every requirement, with tests, and documentation; professional work). They first said that I did pretty well (with a smiley face, mind you), but when they realized that I wasn't willing to relocate, they claimed that they had other candidates that did better and that if I agreed to relocate, that would really boost my application. I'm very sure that they always wait at least a week to reply to e-mails just to probe how desperate the applicants are in order and take advantage of them. It's obvious that they are deliberately trying to find weak and agreeable people that they can abuse as much as possible. We didn't even touch the subject of salary... Just think about the shenanigans that you would have to cope with, especially if you had already given in on the relocation issue... Yes, now that they know that you are weak, they will go for the kill for sure. If you think that what happened to me is too outrageous to be true, just google "ultra tendency kununu". Kununu is a German website that reviews employers (just like Glassdoor). It seems like they did the same thing to at least one other person. Too bad I only found out about it after I already wasted my time. Don't apply to this company if you respect yourself.

Are you willing to relocate or do you really really really really want to work remotely? We don't want to hire remote workers even though we advertise roles as being remote. Oopsy Daisy.
