I was approached by a recruiter via Handshake. I had one initial call with her, then another recruiter, then the office manager, then came in for a half day. Four interviews total and where I was in frequent contact with the second interviewer. A week after my half day in the office they told me they found someone better suited. Everyone was really nice but I was disappointed with how the process was handled after a lot of time was invested in the process.

This opportunity was initially not on my radar as my experience lies in fields far from recruiting, however, a current employee urged me to apply during my search for new opportunities so I saw no issue. The process is relatively straightforward but at times was muddied by a lack of communication between employees resulting in conversations about the role coming to me via text and email from different individuals unaware of the other. These folks were pleasant and nice to work with as we scheduled an initial interview over Microsoft Teams with the DBO. The interview was somewhat disconcerting however as it focused not on what I brought to the table professionally but rather on my personal background, with a great deal of the interview being spent answering questions about my childhood. The DBO was happy to answer any questions I had at the end, but I was left uncomfortable by the encounter. In the future, I would suggest the organization focus primarily on keeping the interview professional (tell me about this role and how it applies, what experience do you have that is relevant, etc.) and not veering into excessive personal territory. I was further dishearted by the statement that this particular role, according to my interviewer, would take around three years for an employee to get a full feeling/foundation for which does not match with my career experience or expectations with my professional and academic background.
