My first 30 minute phone interview was with a Merchant Success Manager, not a recruiter. We had a great conversation about my background and she provided me with an overview of the MSM role. About a week later I was asked to participate in the life story interview. This was with a recruiter and scheduled for 45 minutes. First, I think the life story is an awesome way to interview candidates. The recruiter that interviewed me was very nice and personable. I did find it challenging to fit my career journey, experiences and answer the recruiters questions and ask my own questions all in 45 minutes. I didn’t even get to talk about my successes in my current role which were more pertinent to the role I was interviewing for. I left feeling discouraged. I encourage you to be wise with your time on this one, it goes by quick! During my interview, the recruiter told me she thought she was my recruiter but she was not and another recruiter would actually be deciding if I would move to the final round of interviews, a recruiter I had never even spoken to. Maybe this is by design, I found it confusing. I was also told the role I applied for was very competitive and then she backtracked once she realized I applied for another region, probably an honest mistake. I would have loved to have moved forward in the interview process, but I cannot help but feel it was an unorganized and at times a confusing experience. I did appreciate the time the recruiter took to email me their decline to move forward, most companies these days prefer to ghost candidates. I was encouraged to gain more experience and apply after a 6 month time lapse for the same role.

Unlike any process I’ve had in my nearly 2 decades of experience. I was referred in and then sent to a recruiter who didn’t offer any advice on what to expect. She brought up compensation and only told me OTE. I always exceed my rev targets so I knew that wouldn’t be a problem but having been laid off, I wanted to know my base salary so I scheduled a 10 min meeting with her to get that info. She was condescending and acted like I didn’t listen the first time by saying “[My name] if you remember we discussed the OTE last time.” Totally gaslit me. I loved the people I spoke with though. They’re kind and funny and make the interviews conversational. I would’ve crushed this job but I think that simply because I only had a couple years of ecomm experience (even though I studied it like I was back in college for this), I wasn’t selected. Don’t listen to the “life story” advice. Just make sure you can connect the dots on your resume. Keep answers succinct & impactful because they have a huge candidate pool. This job is an 80/20 split, so the base pay (I assume) is pretty low and you have to sell to hit the 20% delta - which is a given these days, anyway. Love the company and the mission and bummed I didn’t get it but just had a bad taste in my mouth from the recruiter being hasty with me.

I had a great interview process. Kind people, responsive recruiter, straightforward interview process! No overly complicated or trick questions, which I really appreciated. Definitely prepare for the most common questions (tell me about a time...) and have anecdotes ready for typical MSM/CSM questions.
