Email conversations before interview were professional. The job description/role seemed initially vague, as if they were not sure what they wanted. This was confirmed at interview. They wanted someone to essentially build their social media presence from the ground up. They have about 15 followers over three different Instagram accounts. Not sure why they have three separate accounts instead of just one. Told me that the CEO wants to be able to "live off of YouTube revenue alone". I explained how difficult this is and that even huge channels with millions of views do not make a lot of money. Seemed insistent that they need to have a 400k subscriber, multi-million view channel, referencing another channel. Wanted one person to produce weekly content for the YouTube channel while also managing their multiple Instagrams, email newsletters I think as well. I explained that running the YouTube channel would probably be a full time job in itself if they wanted consistent uploads. Also explained that many channels of the size they like have a whole team or videographers, editors etc. behind the scenes. They didn't seem to realise how much work, time and money goes into building a successful YouTube channel from 0 subscribers, but good luck to them. I have personally had a YouTube channel for 5+ years and have around 12,000 subscribers. They seemed to want this 400k channel to pop out of thin air like magic!
If I would have received an offer, I would have turned it down. It sounded like too much work and stress for one person. Role responsibilities seemed vague... A bit of this and a bit of that...
