You fill out a Google form with questions about the company that you may or may not be able to find on their website (and you're graded on this). They expect you to "guess" on the answers you can't find. Then you complete a proofreading test. You get 90 minutes and need to proof two passages. The first passage is proofreading; however, the second page asks for a line edit. This is a red flag immediately. There was no mention in the pay benefits that there is a difference between proofreading and line editing... but there is a major difference in work between the two. The email after my test said I was in the top 20 of 200 candidates, and they were "so close" to offering me a contract, but they could "only accept ten proofreaders." They then told me about their "training program." I would need to complete 30. THIRTY unpaid projects. That isn't training. That is exploitation. First, if I was in your top 20 and you were sad you couldn't offer me a contract, I don't need your training program. Second, you're asking me to provide you with free work.
