During the online application, there are pages of behavioral questionnaire for applicants to full out. Make sure the answers you choose are more customer service orientated. I originally applied for the cosmetic department but received email from the jewelry/ accessories dept. to schedule a phone interview. The first phone interview was conducted by HR staff, pretty generic screening. Asking questions such as "Why Nordstrom?" and "Describe a time when you had to sell something to a customer"; also telling you how the pay structure is going to be like (base + commission), vacation time, days off...etc.
After the phone interview I got to schedule a on-site interview with the department manager in store. During the 1 on 1 interview, the manager was asking more situation based and behavioral questions. After that, she gave a tour of the sales floor and the products sold at her department, at there she asked to do a role-play. After the role-play is pretty much the end of the interview, and I got an offer of the position and was asked to attend training about like 4-5 days after.
I feel that you have to emphasize on your customer service skills more than selling skills because they apparently value their customers above everything else (I mean, look at their return policy- basically none existed! :D But of course, never violate this policy just because you think you have the "power" to do so. Shop responsibly :D ).

So easy, I went to a job fair and was hired on the spot. They need people in the kids department, that's the easiest section to get into. They just ask about your personality and who you are.
Was inside Barton creek mall, hiring manager was prompt and clear with questions ranging from how I would handle difficult customers, to my personal experiences that could apply to the job.
