      Solicitud

Envié una solicitud electrónica. El proceso duró 2 días. Acudí a una entrevista en Instacart (San Francisco, CA) en jul 2014

      Entrevista

General phone interview first, and then if they like you, they send you an email with "challenges". You have to know excel pretty well and they test your creative mindset on different marketing techniques you would do.

Pretty straight forward, but you need to know excel pretty well

      Solicitud

Solicité el puesto a través de la recomendación de un empleado. El proceso duró 2 semanas. Acudí a una entrevista en Instacart (San Francisco, CA) en jun 2015

      Entrevista

First round was the recruiter screen, followed up with with a take-home data challenge (takes a fair amount of time to complete b/c you need to create a deck), followed up with a call with one of the team members (via google hangout), after that they have an onsite with 4 people (2 people in person, 2 people via hangouts). The recruiter was pretty good at managing the process, but the video chats were really awkward and uncomfortable, because the people on the other side are either typing responses or answering email, and it's really distracting. Of the 4 people I met with, 2 were really nice, enthusiastic, passionate about what they were doing and took an interest in me. The other 2 were rather unpleasant. One of the people was quite arrogant and condescending, expected you to know things about Instacart's policies that you wouldn't know unless you worked there (i.e. when to give warnings vs fire a shopper). The other person just couldn't seem to care less about you. Was on the phone, checked email, little eye contact, and looked visibly bored. Interviewing is a 2-way street. Candidates spend hours preparing, clearing the schedule, and researching about you and the company. The very least you can do is give the candidate 30 minutes of undivided attention.

      Pregunta 1

Mix of culture, fit questions and "case" type questions. Aside from standard questions, they will ask a lot about execution and "hustle." Basically, you need to be prepared to do blue-collar tasks such as fixing fridges (which for some reason every interviewer mentioned). If you had $x, how would you spend it (for marketing) and why. Weird role-playing questions, "A shopper is getting complaints about smoking, pretend that I'm the shopper and show me what you would do."

Phone screen > Data Challenge > 2nd Phone Screen. First had a call with a recruiter -- basic questions, resume review, experience, job responsibilities, role-play questions etc. Got advanced to the next round (Data Challenge) - which was moderately challenging (solid excel and presentation skills necessary). Got advanced to a 2nd phone interview - deeper questions on my background and experience + more specific role plays. Short interview, wasn't sure why -- turned out the role was more data analytics-focused than I was qualified for or interested in.
