If its sales, then I'd thank the person for there time and say please think of me in the future if your needs or circumstance should change. If its a Job we're speaking about, and you're told thank you for your interest, but we are going with another candidate, then I'd ask, may I ask what the reason was? and if the reply is " we feel they are a better fit, (their going to be vague) Simply thank you for the interview. There is no wrong or right answer, I'm guessing they are looking to see if you become agitated or angry. No company wants a lose cannon..
