Had a brief information interview with Genentech HR and pitched them my unique skill set. They were attentive and helped me make the next connection to the internal recruiter who is actually sourcing the position I am interested in (but don't necessarily have a traditional skill set for). The HR person told me they had difficulty finding people to do this type of work, but didn't go into why (time was short). However, they saw how some of my skills are transferable and made it easy for me to ask for a next step. No harm, no foul, and a very good first impression of the company.
