Beware of false employer branding! Expedia likes to pride itself of its “inclusive” and “non-discriminatory” work environment – can’t be further from the truth.
After applying to the Sweden office I received an email 3 hours later (!) with the generic line (We are sorry but...). Fine, I told myself. After requesting some precisions from the Expedia HR recruiter, he admitted (in writing) that I was not considered due to the fact that I AM NOT NATIVE.
This is all the more appalling as I am a citizen of Sweden with the same rights as everyone else and speak fluent Swedish. I since reached out to the Expedia VP, Inclusion, to report this illegal practice. Expedia is so used to these discriminating practices that they don’t even try anymore. I found that they were barred in Singapore for the same thing. It’s inexcusable in this day and age for a global company like Expedia to continue like this so shamelessly.
Expedia a great place to work? I guess only if you have the “right” name from the “right” origin.
