In its 2024-2025 Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers issue, U.S. News & World Report has acknowledged 12 Sutter ambulatory surgery centers. This debut ranking of outpatient surgical centers provides consumers with a data-driven tool for selecting outpatient surgical care. The inaugural edition of Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers involved the evaluation of nearly 5,000 surgery centers by U.S. News in partnership with healthcare data analytics firm CareJourney. Centers were assessed based on various criteria, including their success in preventing complications, emergency room visits, unplanned hospitalizations, and other adverse outcomes, as well as patient outcomes, risk adjustment, and more.
During her two days a week at Sansum Clinic’s Pulmonary & Critical Medicine Department, Vanessa Savelich performs various tasks. She cleans exam rooms and ensures they are stocked with necessary supplies. Additionally, she greets patients, takes their blood pressure, and documents important medical details in their electronic health records. Vanessa's externship is part of Santa Barbara City College’s eight-month, tuition-free Medical Assistant Training Program. In addition to her work at the clinic, she attends evening lectures, lab classes, and hands-on exercises. These experiences provide students with insight into the healthcare industry. Vanessa hopes that completing the MA certificate program, along with gaining work experience, will make her a more competitive candidate for nursing school. This is especially important given the limited slots in nursing programs and the growing demand for greater access to patient care.
