In this comprehensive study, we set out to compare the diagnostic capabilities of radiographers and #deeplearning (DL) algorithms in detecting pulmonary nodules and masses on chest radiographs. For this purpose, a set of 100 chest radiographs were independently analyzed by 6 trained radiographers or by 4 DL algorithms—heat-map algorithm, abnormal probability algorithm, mass probability algorithm, nodule probability algorithm— developed by Quibim. Some important findings are discussed throughout the article: - The mass algorithm had superior diagnostic accuracy compared to trained radiographers (AUC of 0.916 vs 0.778, p < 0.001). - The heat map algorithm showed remarkable ability to automatically detect and localize lung nodules and masses with exceptional specificity, paving the way for more accurate localization and diagnostic support. These findings suggest the potential of utilizing #AI alongside radiographer expertise to improve diagnostic accuracy and speed up the diagnostic process, especially in a #healthcare landscape characterized by a shortage of radiologists and increasing demand for medical imaging services.
