This month, 40 members of the John Muir Health team joined our partners at UCSF Health to participate in the Cancer Support Community's 2025 Hope Walk at Walnut Creek Civic Park. Our team member Adriana says she walks to show her patients “that we are with them in their fight. It sends a message of solidarity and lets them know they are not alone." A heartfelt thank you to all who participated, donated, and supported this meaningful cause. #HopeWalk2025 #JohnMuirHealth #UCSFHealth #CancerSupportCommunity #TogetherWeWalk #HopeInAction

#1 in California — and Top 10 in the Nation! We’re proud to share that, according to data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the John Muir Health Concord Medical Center has been ranked #1 in California and among the top 10 hospitals nationwide for 30-day survival rates following coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. Thanks to the generosity of the Valentine Family Foundation, many of these life-saving procedures are performed in the Valentine Family Cardiac Surgery Operating Room, right here in our community. To our donors, physicians, caregivers, and supporters: This honor belongs to you! Together, we’re saving lives and setting the standard for exceptional heart care.

Engineering News Record recently named the best construction projects in California and the Behring Pavilion was named the “Best Health Care” project for 2024. Michael Monaldo, SVP, Facilities Development and Corporate Real Estate (FD/CRE) commented that it was a remarkable 4-year journey from planning to design to construction to opening the project. He credited the incredible team that worked on it, including architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, FD/CRE team, physicians, clinicians, staff, operations and support teams, the Foundation, our UCSF partners, and many more for the project’s success. Congratulations to all on this great team effort and the award!

Health outcomes are directly impacted by racism and societal inequities. We recently hosted a day of learning with our Community Benefit partners on how to navigate the challenges of implementing changes to address structural racism. We thank all of our panelists, team members, and non-profit partners who bravely engage in this important work to improve equity in the health of our communities.

We recently had a team of our leaders volunteer for Habitat for Humanity's 2024 Women's Leadership Build and the construction of Esperanza Place, an affordable community in Walnut Creek. Safe and affordable housing is needed for individuals and families to live healthy lives. As part of our community health focus, we provide financial and in-kind contributions that support housing and efforts to prevent people from becoming unhoused. With partnerships like this, we can collectively create a healthy and safe community. To learn more about John Muir Health’s community commitment, please visit: https://bit.ly/3wMC3po

Suzanne has been volunteering at our Walnut Creek Medical Center for more than 16 years, after a visit to the Wig Source following her sister's breast cancer diagnosis. The Wig Source serves patients who experience hair loss due to a medical condition by providing beautiful wigs and care guidance free of charge, and Suzanne has generously devoted her time to leading Wig Source for many years in addition to serving as an Auxiliary Board Member. Suzanne has assisted countless community members through her volunteerism, including her own granddaughter who wore a wig for two years starting at age 8 while being treated for Leukemia -- and is now a healthy 21 year old. We thank Suzanne and all of our volunteers for their compassion and warmth in serving our community! #NationalVolunteerMonth
