Cheska Faye De Castro-Vonk started her Intermountain Health career in 2022, moving away from her parents and sister in North Dakota to work at St. George Regional Hospital in St. George, Utah. But it took less than a year for her whole family to do the same. Though they work at the same facility, the De Castros don’t get to see each other often at work due to conflicting schedules. However, the family embraces their new jobs, from better weather to more social opportunities. Most importantly, they feel appreciated as employees and look forward to going to work. “My coworkers are great. They're fun. I like the administration here, too. I feel like they care. They listen to me,” Cheska said.

As an RN and care manager at St. Mary's Medical Center in Grand Junction, CO, Karin coordinates care between patients, the medical practice, and related entities. She connects her patients with resources and helps them through their medical needs. And when she recently answered a call from a familiar patient and his gruff voice on the other end said, "well, my house burned down," Karin sprang into action. This designation confirms our commitment to ensuring our facilities have the supplies they need to provide clinical excellence while working tirelessly to reduce our spending on those supplies. Our methods create a self-reliant system that stands firm against supply disruption while broadening our organization’s reputation as a trusted healthcare provider. A huge shout out to the more than 1,200 caregivers who call the Intermountain Supply Chain Organization “home” and made this achievement possible!

But the canine caregivers aren’t just here to look cute — they play a vital role in providing excellent care and are one way we bring a caring spirit to the patient experience. Congratulations to our very own Megan Mahncke on being named as one of Becker's Healthcare's Chief Marketing Officers to Know for 2023! In her role as our Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, Megan leads brand development, marketing and public relations campaigns, and internal strategic messaging for Intermountain Health. She also serves as president of the Intermountain Community Care Foundation, where she is responsible for strategically aligning and streamlining community health efforts across the system. In 2022, upon the merging of Intermountain and SCL Health, she was tasked with implementing a new brand to unite the systems' identities. She helped guide each hospital and region to build on their existing strengths and community health needs, while adhering to a strong corporate brand.
Dean Phillips, 16, suffered a cardiac arrest while working out earlier this month at Sky View High School in Smithfield, UT. Dean was flown to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City and was diganosed with pneumonia, but is otherwise doing well, up walking and talking. But, it’s Curtis Cazier, an Intermountain Health athletic trainer working at Sky View High School, that the family is crediting for saving him when he lost consciousness. “Without everyone working together the outcome could have been very different,” Cazier said.
Over the past 140 years, Mount Saint Vincent in Denver, CO, now part of Intermountain Health, has served the community through its mission to help abused, neglected, and behavioral health-challenged children function fully in their homes, school, and society. Mount Saint Vincent does this through a robust continuum of care, including pediatric behavioral healthcare, a foster care program, and a community preschool.
