This year, we’re celebrating 65 amazing years of serving our communities, and we’re excited to share a little bit about our history! It all started in 1936 when W.T. Harris borrowed $1,500 to open the very first Harris Food Store in Charlotte, N.C. He was ahead of his time, creating the first supermarket with air-conditioning and late-night hours! Meanwhile, over in Mooresville, NC, Willis L. Teeter and his brother Paul opened their first Teeter’s Food Mart. Fast forward to 1960, and the two stores merged to form Harris Teeter. Now, we’re over 250 stores strong, with 70+ fuel centers and 36,000 associates! And we’ve stayed true to our roots: high-quality products, an incredible shopping experience and superior customer service. As we celebrate 65 years, we’re also honoring the incredible associates who’ve helped make Harris Teeter what it is today. As we head into the holiday season, Harris Teeter is grateful to give back to our communities. With the help of our amazing VolunTeeters, Harris Teeter donated 8,500 Thanksgiving meal bags to local food banks, providing holiday meals to 34,000 people.
