I'd recommend Associates to any PhD student who wants to make money during their PhD using their desk skills or knowledge. Project topics can be varied, and the skills and experiences can look great on a CV. On my first few projects, the payments were quite small, but now I've got the hang of it, £100s can be earned on each project. Since I joined at the end of last year, I've made enough to go travelling at the end of my PhD.
