Ventajas
Coworkers are compassionate, creative, and committed. Staff meetings and weekly supervision and workshops are usually helpful and supportive. Working with clients is unspeakably meaningful. Wide range of clinical approaches and freedom to incorporate your own with clients.
Desventajas
Upper management dynamics are toxic, with supervisors turning on and even terminating staff without cause. Pay rate sounds great until you realize you take home about half that in billable time due to constant client cancellations without reimbursement and massive Medicaid documentation requirements (unbillable time). Distrust of upper management and pay structure is deeply problematic and leads to a lot of turnover. I worked there for 2 years and had some of the hardest cases my supervisor said she had ever seen in her entire career and still never received a raise even when I requested one. Supervisors stress "self-care" yet I was encouraged to only allow myself one day off a week in order to make "full-time" which was nearly impossible to do with so many cancellations and only being able to see the majority of clients after school. Insurance only available to those making full-time was consistently said to be "not worth it" given how how the deductibles were. Paid time off is only 5 hours a month only for those making full-time client hours. Not sure what that can do for anyone getting sick, or needing to be with someone who is.
