Ventajas

Strong DEI culture (I can vouch as a young, Asian woman in a male-dominated field) Even stronger safety culture Access to a global network of professionals, technical experts, and business leaders Top quartile salaries and non-monetary benefits* within country *inc. healthcare, training opportunities

Desventajas

Career opportunities are typically limited to what's in your base country, as well as the reach/influence of your line manager. It doesn't seem like the talent pipeline is managed as proactively anymore, especially now that HR is mostly outsourced to hubs like Manila. Pay is largely driven by your base country. For example: Given two expats with the same roles & duties in the same asset/location, the one from a 1st world country like the UK or NL will be paid waaaay more than the other from a 3rd world country because pay is relative to what's competitive where you came from, rather than just the value of your skills. Should be fine if you've already accepted your fate, born into being cheap labor 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ventajas

Early career engineers are given significant ownership and exposure to complex operational challenges. Strong focus on safety, technical development, and collaboration across disciplines. Opportunities to work on high-impact projects, interact with senior leadership, and contribute to decisions affecting major assets and infrastructure.

Desventajas

Workloads can be demanding, and priorities can shift quickly based on operational needs. Decision-making processes can be slow due to organizational complexity, and geographic mobility may be necessary for certain career opportunities.
