Applied online via Linkedin and was subsequently contacted by their Talent Acquisition Advisor to arrange a first stage interview with the Assistant/Company Secretary. I was initially given very fixed times by their talent acquisition advisor whom i subsequently informed it was not conducive as i was travelling 4 hours to get to the interview.
A first stage interview was subsequently arranged and i interviewed at first stage with the Assistant/Company Secretary which overall was ok, general competency questions and a talk around my CV.
I got a phone call from their talent acquisition advisor the next day to provide feedback and also to invite me for a second stage interview with their Global Legal Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer. I was informed interview days would be end of that week or beginning of the next and to provide my availability which i did to include that week and beginning of the next being Monday. After sending through my availability to their talent acquisition advisor, there was NO acknowledgment of the email and i followed this with a phone call to which he responded with he can't push the Assistant/Company Secretary with regards to availability. I informed him i was simply asking on an update and to be kept informed on what was going on. At this stage, i had also noticed that the role i was interviewing for had been REPOSTED; something i asked their talent acquisition advisor as if i am in second stages of an interview and that same role had been REPOSTED then clearly i am NOT a choice. ( so why waste my time by inviting me back?) He responded with oh its just for recruitment purposes and the there was nothing to worry about. I really contemplated at this stage to cancel the second stage interview but i decided not to and to go and give it my best.
Eventually we managed to arrange the second stage interview with their Global Legal Counsel and Chief Compliance Office which again was ok with competency based questions and a talk around my CV. I asked when i should expect to hear back and was informed he the Legal Counsel was looking to make a decision asap and to expect to hear back the following week. (My interview was on a Monday)
The following week on Monday, i still had not heard anything back so i decided to give it till end of the week and chase up the following Monday (2 weeks by this time). I subsequently phoned their talent acquisition advisor up to ask for an update on numerous occasions (all to no avail), eventually got hold of him and he responded saying he was now due to catch up with the Legal Counsel that afternoon and that i should expect to hear from him later that afternoon.
That afternoon went by and NOTHING. I followed this up the next day with an email to their Assistant/Company Secretary to ask if there was any update and again NOTHING. No acknowledgement to my email nor was there any update from the talent acquisition advisor following my phone call. I had heard nothing back from this interview that i had interviewed for over 2 weeks ago and which i had been informed i should expect a response/feedback/decision within a week. After numerous calls to the talent acquisition advisor and an email to the Assistant/Company Secretary all to which there was no response, i decided to no longer chase up. After all, if i got the job i would know! It has now been SEVEN WEEKS at the time of writing this review WITH NO UPDATE.
It’s rather disappointing that a GLOBAL company, with a talent actuation team chooses to act so UNPROFESSIONAL, APPALLING and without a care for potential employees. After someone has taken the time and incurred expenses to travel 4 hours each way to an interview and back and repeated this TWICE for a second stage interview, it is rather appalling and unfortunate that a company cannot take ONE MINUTE or even 30 SECONDS to make a phone call to update a candidate who has made several attempts to get an update. I think this goes to speak so much of the company and it is of no surprise that their glassdoor rating is 2.6 out of 832 reviews. Sometimes, something are blessings in disguise and i believe this is one of them.
As professionals, I really hope companies can do better & be better in all aspect of work being it recruitment, interviews & actual working environment.
Williams Lea Tag, i hope you can do better AND be better.
