You go through two rounds. Its through a search committee, about 4-6 persons. If you make it through the first round, they recommend you to the second. You stand a better chance if more than half of the committee like you and find you fit. Start days are usually the 1st or the 15th of the month. If you are used to biweekly pay, get ready to make some adjustments, as you will have to wait until end of the month to get paid. They definitely reach out to your references, if you list someone down, make sure they are legit and can truly give accurate information.
