After applying online, I participated in a group interview consisting of 10 people learning about the company and its values. The store manager leading that meeting was fantastic (passionate, motivating, professional). Next, the one-on-one interview with a staff managers was odd. She seemed threatened by me from the onset and kept pushing for me to unload trucks late at night. Since I have retail cashier experience, am college educated and am a full-time senior technical professional, it's clear I'm not a loading dock worker. She seemed to enjoyed the idea of me doing menial labor. While discussing my flexibility in work hours (except for commitments I'd already made prior to applying) she convinced me to change my hours of availability during the interview telling me the store manager recommended it. After the interview I followed up with an email and didn't get a response for a couple weeks and sent another email. I got a short email from the staff mgr telling me I'd have to wait for the training mgr to return from vacation. Finally had a very brief phone interview with the training manager, he asked me to consider a transition staff role instead of seasonal (at this point, close to a month had passed since I'd applied so it made sense I'd missed the seasonal staff boat, but I wasn't sure why). I agreed to proceed. Then there was ANOTHER phone interview with him. This time he finally told me the role was indeed unloading the trucks so I declined. He said my hours of available made this the only job available (because the staff manager had me alter my hours of availability). While I'd love to work for their store manager (she was awesome), their staff manager was horribly insecure and set in her own apparent agenda despite the needs of the company and the training manager was disorganized and a poor communicator. I didn't need this side job, but wanted to work there, despite the pay being literally a 6th of my day job's hourly rate, because I'm passionate about organization and loved helping people and they have a great employee discount. It seemed like a good fit. Apparently not. It was such a negative experience, I don't think I can even bring myself to shop there any longer.
