I applied for a job online and was contacted by HR three weeks later to set up an interview. Unfortunately, they wanted to perform all interviews by the end of the week and asked me to set up my air travel through the travel company they use. The process was very unorganized and the travel company wasn't sure what to do with my travel request. There was lots of back and forth so due to such short notice I ended up doing a phone interview rather than in-person (I'm sure that didn't help my chances). An HR representative, the hiring manager, and a department manager took turns asking me multi-part STAR questions. They asked several questions at once so I found jotting notes down helped me answer everything they asked. From my follow-up questions at the end of the interview I found there were several other (undesirable) additional responsibilities that they didn't put in the job posting. Overall, they were friendly and easy to talk to, but by the end of the interview I wasn't so sure it was the right job for me. A month went by and I didn't hear anything so I reached out to the hiring manager with no response. Three months went by and I reached out to the HR representative and he said they were still awaiting management decision on the position. Six months after the interview I learned through the grapevine that the positions finally got filled.

I had actually talked with one of the managers at this plant about doing a transfer in my current position and had told him I applied for one of their managers jobs which he promptly told me I would not get that job because they had already decided to promote someone at that plant. I found that odd being a government job. But I was suprised and got an interview. It went well but i do feel it was probably a waist of time.
