      Entrevista de Devops Engineer

      Solicitud

Envié una solicitud electrónica. El proceso duró 6 semanas. Acudí a una entrevista en Sysdig (San Francisco, CA) en nov 2017

      Entrevista

I had an initial call with a recruiter. It was a very awkward call, the recruiter sounded completely apathetic and unenthused. Although unusual I decided to disregard this exchange and schedule interviews. The interview process itself was needlessly drawn out. The recruiter would only schedule 1 interview a week so it the whole process took 6 weeks. Keep in my that all that needed to be scheduled were interviews done via a video conferencing app. There was no onsite. The recruiter did nothing to prepare or manage candidate expectations. He wouldn't specify the interviewers title or what the focus of the interview would be about - OS internals, coding, systems design etc. In fact when I asked so that I might prepare for the interview the recruiter said "Oh I don't know what he usually asks." And that was the end of it. The recruiter didn't seem capable of doing anything more than sending once sentence emails to me. I had 4 interviews with different software engineers. All of them really nice, personable and sharp, people that I would have been excited to work with. However everyone of the interviewers asked "so who have you spoken to so far?" There seemed to be no communication between the recruiter and anyone on the team about my previous interviews and what subject areas were covered. One engineer even said during our interview "our hiring process really sucks." Eventually this process proceeded to interviews with the Chief Architect and VP of Engineering. The Chief Architect interviewed me from the street, complete with honking horns and traffic noises in the back ground. He even mentioned he was standing in front of the DMV. This is pretty inexcusable from a C level title. After this I was told I had one interview left with the Chief Architect. My interview with the Chief Architect was equally odd. The questions were ad-hoc and jumped all over the place. After about 20 minutes of this he asks "have you taken our software engineer coding test"? I replied that I had not. He then stated that he needed to get me over a coding test right away and that I should have this in half an hour and if I could just complete it and send it back, to which I agreed. Now think about this. Why is the Chief Architect administering coding tests? How do you get through 6 weeks of interviews all the way to the hiring manager and this never comes up? This is completely nuts even by SV standards. It was real window into how disorganized they are. I said I would be glad to take a coding test and this person told me he would get this right over to me as he wanted "to get this wrapped up ASAP." Then nothing happened. I was never sent a coding test. I heard nothing. 5 days went by and there was zero communication. Finally I interviewed the recruiter and said. I felt that he was no longer managing this process and that that experience had not only been disappointing but also seemed to disrespectful. His reply was that he had emailed me but from a different account than the one he had been using to communicate with me the whole time. He said it was probably in my SPAM folder and that I should try to be "more professional." Apparently giving your feedback to a completely broken and amateur hiring process is considered "unprofessional." He later copy and pasted two sentences of rejection text into our thread stating - "there that's proof that the email was sent ." You can't make this stuff up..
