Very strange. First phone interview: Interviewer says I don't have the logic optimization experience they're looking for. Ok, fair enough, but I point out coursework as well as other optimization experience. He doesn't seem convinced and we run out of time for questions from my end.
I figure that was that was the end of it. But then the same guy schedules another phone interview the next week. I was kind of surprised, but went ahead and accepted. Again, he asks me to explain how my experience is relevant to logic optimization. Once again, I try to say that I do have some related if not exact experience as well as EDA experience that could be relevant. Again he determines that I don't have the right experience. I ask why he called me back, then? And he goes on to say he can just hire a PhD out of school - and I say, sure, go ahead and do that.
Both times the interviewer was about 15 minutes late to call for the phone interview.
Overall, one of the more bizarre interview experiences I've had. If they want to hire, they should probably work on their interviewing skills & etiquette. And maybe not lecture the interviewee about how they don't have the right skills - twice.
(BTW: I did not directly apply for this particular job, apparently it was passed on to the synthesis group from another group that I did apply to)

How would the following IF statement get transformed into hardware:

counter++
The trick here is that you're going to think that you'll get an inferred MUX out of this due to the IF statement ( I certainly got stuck in that local minima). What they're looking for is: counter = counter + condition.
