I have mailed to the PI. Had an informal discussion about one hour. Mainly PI asked about my research papers and background. We had long discussion about the concerned field. Further we spoke about my research carrier after my post doctoral training
The process starts with sending an email to the PI. Then, an on-site presentation to meet the lab. Decision in 1 week. Ask for reference letters. Extend the offer after the reference is cleared.

Technical interview with several members of the team I was interviewing for. This was followed by a 1-1 meeting with the PI who asked me standard behavioural questions. I gave a 30 minute long presentation before the technical interview, using a slideshow.
