      Entrevista

      This employer ghosts candidates. I interviewed for the Fulltime Academic Success Coach for writing position via Zoom in June. It was a panel interview composed of three people: two from the EXCELerator tutoring services and one from library services. The role is meant to work with students in an academic coach capacity, carrying out workshops, and doing out-reaching to the broader campus community. Overall, the interview was cordial but tough. This is not an entry-level position, because judging by the suite of questions they asked me, they're looking for someone quite experienced. As far as my performance in the interview went, I was audibly nervous and the difficulty of the questions threw me off and I failed to impress on my strengths as a candidate. However, my major issue with this employer is that they ghosted me. The lead interviewer mentioned at the end of the interview that they'd get back to me within a week while they interview other candidates. I'm writing this review over a month later and I have not heard back from any of the three people who interviewed me. Given that it's been this long, I obviously didn't get the job, which I am fine with, but I also think it is highly discourteous to not get back to a candidate. Employers can do better, should be better, and the folks at St. Charles Community College clearly cannot even spare a rejection email and I think that reflects poorly on them.

      Tell us about yourself and why you're interested in this position? What qualities do you think are essential for an academic and success coach? Can you give an example of a project that you've managed or lead from start to finish? And how did you ensure the project's success? What is an innovative way you've integrated technology to support student success? Could you tell us about two students you've tutored who had different needs and how you used different approaches to then meet those needs? How would you engaged a capable but unmotivated student who show's little interest in using academic services on campus? What is an area of proffesional growth that you're working on and how are you improving in that area? What innovative approaches would you use to encourage students to use the EXCELerator? This role involves balancing tutoring, coaching, and administrative tasks. Could you share an experience where you had to balance different resposibilities requiring different skillsets? Can you share a specific example of how you motivated a struggling student to get from a blank sheet of paper to a fully fleshed out paper? How do you define customer services and what specific strategies do you use to ensure a positive experience for those that you serve? How do you manage time effectively while while balancing multiple students and their varying needs?
