      Entrevista de Senior Consultant

      22 ene 2018
      Candidato de entrevista anónimo
      Chicago, IL
      Sin oferta
      Experiencia negativa
      Entrevista normal

      Solicitud

Solicité el puesto a través de la recomendación de un empleado. El proceso duró 3 semanas. Acudí a una entrevista en Slalom (Chicago, IL) en mar 2016

      Entrevista

I had 3 rounds of phone interviews and then finally an onsite interview. The first onsite interview went well. A lot of data warehousing, SQL server and SSIS questions which I had no problem answering. The second onsite interview was probably the most bizarre and humiliating interview I have ever had. The guy comes to the room and informs me that he only has 45 minutes because he has a meeting of some kind. OK, no problem. Then he asks me to model a business problem. OK, I start to whiteboard the problem. When I model something I start by asking questions that will help me with the design. As I am asking him questions about the problem, his answer is always “I don’t know”. Then all of a sudden he stops me and asks me a different question: “Suppose that I have 20 horses and I need to find which one is the fastest. The track allows only 8 horses at a time and I can only run 2 races. Can you find which one is the fastest horse?” And then he leaves the room. When he came back I told him that the problem does not have a solution. So he tells me – Well I wanted to see how you think about the problem. Now keep in mind that I have almost 20 years of industry experience and I take pride in what I do. Furthermore, I was at the time working as a consultant for a different firm. So, I asked myself: Do I want to work for this clown? As I was walking through the hall, I saw a lot of consultants “being trained” in new technologies (another term for sitting on the bench). Overall I sensed an arrogant culture.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of your experience interviewing with Slalom. It is our goal to give every candidate a positive experience, and in your case it sounds like we certainly had a miss. While we do work to train our employees on new technologies regularly as that is important in how we best serve our clients, we regret that your interview experience did not meet our high standards. Your feedback has been shared back with the team and will serve as valuable input towards our efforts to continuously improve.

Not too difficult. All questions were what you would expect. A few rounds with the hiring manager, and others from the team / umbrella which included a case study. The prompt was given with a few different options and fairly simple to deliver.

Four separate 30 minute interviews. Each with a different individual. Each interview was supposed to be focused on one thing like culture or technical skills, but in reality the interviewers did what they wanted.

Very friendly, multiple screeners with people in the local office (over zoom). They'll ask about any consulting experience, but mostly want to get to know you as a person. Just be yourself.
