I had initial telephone screening type interview with the co-founder/CEO (30 minutes), then a semi-technical interview with an engineering manager (1 hour). The technical interview involved general questions plus some very basic conceptual questions about networking, API development, and related concepts. After the technical interview, the CEO then contacted me to request a formal application (think something like you would see for a fast-food job) and three professional references, which, in context, I had assumed was a precursor to an offer--after all, at this level, why bother with a fill-in form and references, if you aren't planning to offer? He failed to acknowledge that I had sent the application or respond to any of the three follow-up messages I sent over the next two weeks. No one contacted my references. I only found out for certain that I wasn't going to get an offer when the recruiter sent me a form letter telling me they had filled the position and encouraging me to apply for a position there in the future. At this point, I'm glad there was no offer because I might've accepted it and found out about their unprofessional and discourteous conduct after the fact, too late. Bullet dodged.
