Did a phone screen. There were two people on the call, the person who contacted me to schedule the call (a statistician) and another statistician who I believe would have been my boss. I received an overview of the position and the responsibilities (this went on for 5 minutes before I could even speak). Was asked about salary expectations pretty early on. After providing a reasonable expected salary for a data scientist with my skills and what was listed on the job posting, I was told that they could get someone "write code" for less than I was asking. They then went on to mention that salary is determined by a formula which takes information about the applicant into account and assigns a "fair" salary. They had not taken the time to run my information through their formula, but they assured me that it would say less than what I was asking. At this point I realized that I couldn't work here. A week later I was told they were going forward with other candidates. A few weeks after that, I received an email stating that their needs have changed and they are contacting previous candidates. I declined their request for another phone interview. The employee I was contacted (same person both times) by was very impersonal and made no effort to make the position appealing.

The whole process from initial interview to follow up took 2 weeks and was all performed online. The initial interview was casual talking about the role and what you're interested in. The second interview lasting ~4hrs, was meeting with ~10 people ranging from top managers to co-workers in the department. Everyone was polite and asked questions about: 1. Scope of work you do. 2. What do you consider your weaknesses are. Also had to present on a project that I worked on, of my choice. Overall, the process was positive and the top managers were considerate and amicable.
