      Solicitud

Envié una solicitud electrónica. El proceso duró 2 días. Acudí a una entrevista en Shin-ei Real Estate (Shinjuku) en may 2020

      Entrevista

The initial call was incredibly quick. I think they called me back in less than 24 hours from when I applied? They wanted to schedule the interview for the next day (in-person, during COVID-19), but I asked to postpone it for the following day. They also seemed surprised when I gave them my availability, which was a little surprising since generally potential employers ask for your schedule. The interview started off very standard. I was taken to a meeting room with two interviewers. They asked fairly standard questions for Japan, even if they were pretty personal. There was an odd focus on the health of my family members, which in hindsight, may have been indicative that they discriminate against people with chronic diseases. They asked about my living situation, my rent, my previous paychecks, and so on. The interview took a very horrific twist when the company president entered. Not only did he give backhanded insults to my skills, my health, and my achievements in very casual Japanese, but he also insulted me as a married woman, basically saying that I was selfish for living apart from my husband (during COVID-19) and implied I'd jump ship the second borders opened to return - ignoring my repeated statements that my husband and I had always intended to relocate to Japan this year. He claimed I didn't know Japanese, despite the entire interview being conducted in it and that statement actually got a shocked reaction from the other interviewers. In short - the discussion with the CEO was nothing short of a mental beat down. I managed to not cry until I got outside and around the corner, but it was the worst interview experience I've ever had.
