I recently went through the interview process with Rootly for the Senior Software Engineer - Ruby on Rails position, and unfortunately, I had an extremely negative experience that I feel compelled to share. Upon applying, I had high hopes for Rootly, as their company reputation seemed promising. However, my initial enthusiasm quickly faded after the first call with the CTO. During the call, it became apparent that the CTO was disinterested and did not provide much information about the company or the role itself. Despite this, I remained hopeful and proceeded to the next stage, which involved a take-home test. I invested a significant amount of time and effort into the take-home test, meticulously implementing the requested features and paying attention to the smallest details. The project description was comprehensive, and I made sure to address all the requirements outlined. The disappointment struck when I scheduled the review session for my take-home project. The CTO showed a complete lack of professionalism and disregard for the effort I had put into the assignment. The review was rushed and, to my disbelief, the CTO skipped over a significant portion of what was originally asked in the take-home description. It was clear that they hadn't even taken the time to thoroughly examine my work. To add insult to injury, the outcome of the interview process was conveyed to me in a generic rejection email. It was disheartening to receive such an impersonal and dismissive response after investing considerable time and energy into the application. Based on my experience, I would strongly advise against interviewing at Rootly and particularly discourage anyone from participating in their take-home test. The lack of professionalism displayed by the CTO during the review process, coupled with the generic rejection email, leaves a lot to be desired in terms of the company's treatment of candidates. It's essential for companies to recognize and respect the time and effort candidates invest in the application process. Unfortunately, Rootly fell far short in this regard, ultimately leading to a frustrating and disheartening experience.
