Applied on-line, then had several phone conversations with Rocket Lab Leaders. This was followed by numerous interviews which became very boring as they had clearly asked all of their questions and started to repeat themselves.
Initial interviews seemed to align with the job I applied for, then towards what I thought was the end of the process, dialogue went completely off topic. Questions were asked that were outside of my area of knowledge that I could not be expected to know. I was under great pressure to answer questions which I could not. I was not embarrassed to admit I didn’t know, as my CV did not imply I had knowledge in the areas they seemed to be looking for.
The interview process was the manifestation of my worst fears for an interview process.
All of the interviewers were very intelligent people, however made some “rookie” mistakes with regards to people skills and general behaviour.
In my opinion; Rocket Lab is an interesting company and holds the intellectual property to succeed. However, they must embrace and embody a more corporate structure and behaviours if they really want to get ahead. Companies thrive when there is a combination of intelligence and positive behaviours, if the balance is off then success is limited.
