I was emailed to sign up for a phone interview. The scheduling was easy and straightforward. However, when the time for the interview came, I did not receive a call or a message stating that the interviewer was running behind. I had to call them, leave a message, and then finally someone called me back (15 minutes past the scheduled time).
After learning more about the schedule of the position (Wednesday-Sunday, Sunday work from home), I was already hesitant about it as I don't want to work weekends. I said I would think about it/consider it.
Next, they asked me how much I would like to be paid. I told the rate I was looking for, $30/hour, which I expect to be negotiated down, as you usually ask for the high-ball amount you would like and then the employer counters. I was told that there was no way I would be paid that, so I asked what the going rate for the position was. She said $16-$17/hour. I said sorry, that's much below even the lowest I would want to be paid for a position ($25).
The interviewer could not stop herself from laughing at me. Since this is anonymous, someone reading this does not know my background/experience, so please trust me when I say that my background and experience does warrant the rate I was asking for.
The unprofessionalism of this woman was absolutely ridiculous. Even if you think what I'm saying is funny, you are representing Redfin, and should be acting as a professional. This was so extremely rude to me, and I will never use Redfin as a service or a potential employer ever again.
During this interview there were no questions about my background, just a "tell me about yourself". I think they are really just trying to hire a lot of average employees who are desperate for work, because they really didn't seem to be interested if I would actually make a good fit at the company, etc.
