I didn't know that online applications worked, I thought resumes just go off into a black hole. Since I didn't have a friend that worked at the company and I shop from them anyway I decided to give it a try. The application online was easy to complete and took about 15 minutes. Needless to say as skeptical as I was - it was a shock when I got an email from an actual person a few days later. I ended up communicating through email a few times over the course of the day and set up a phone interview with a recruiter. The phone interview lasted about 10 minutes. It started with just HR questions and then quickly ended when we both realized that I didn't have the in depth SQL experience that is a requirement for the position. The recruiter told me that I would work better in another area of the company but there weren't any open positions that would work with my background. She gave me her email address and said that I could email her directly when I see something else open up.
