There's three stages to getting a job as far as I am aware. Stage One - You have to write a 600+ word Personal Statement. If your successful you will progress to Stage 2. Stage Two - Selection Centre. Consists of numeracy, Geography and General Knowledge (Which is Police Knowledge so don't go believing they are going to ask you who the king is? etc). Summarising and organising data, call handling, mapping and typing test. I did not pass the selection centre I was one point short. Numeracy part had 4 questions was relatively easy but everything has to be done mentally. As I said General Knowledge is on the police so like what does PSOS stand for, where are contact centres etc. there are 5 questions. Geography also had 5 questions and ranged from what council area is..... in, roads you may drive to get to somewhere, what Island is SW from a town etc so have to be very knowledgeable in this area. These 3 parts consisted of 20 minutes altogether. The Organising and summarising Information was straightforward. First page you had to read a paragraph then pick the 3 most important statements. Second page again it was a paragraph and number the statements of importance form 1 to 5. And Third page was Summarising the paragraph to pass on the important information. You had 20 minutes for this part. Last part was Mapping which they only give you 10 minutes for. You have to use google maps and have 10 questions to find the locations. An example of a location maybe if you were going EB on m74 and you took slip road off motorway and at first roundabout took 2nd exit then 1st exit and the next roundabout what is the name of the health centre you will reach? So quite in depth some questions. You had to score 23 in this part (It doesn't tell you what it is out of but I assume it is at least 35 going by you have 14 questions in first paper, 10 mapping questions, and the summarising part) this is where I scored 22 Call taking was a general enquiry, a disturbance then a welfare check/caller fear a friend was in trouble. Main aim was that you noted down as much as possible and asked the correct info. The calls could last up to 5 minutes and you has 1 minute wrap time to write your notes. I received a score of 38 you have to Score 30 to progress. Type test for myself was very quiet, I could barely hear what the man was saying. I kept failing behind due to this however they do speak slowly and clearly and tell you when punctuation marks are required. You had 5 minutes for this part. - I achieved 42 WPM. Apparently you can apply up to 3 times, but I am the kind of person what is for me won't go past me.
