"Worst Interview Experience EVER!! I just want to let people know about the horrible treatment I got from the hiring manager (a current product manager who started off as a software engineer at Pocket Gems). The rest of the recruiters I spoke to were super nice and this is not a reflection of them as a company. But if you are being interviewed by this guy, BEWARE! First of all, the position that I was interviewing for was for "Associate Product Manager" and all he asked me were complex engineering and mathematical questions so the content of the interview wasn't even relevant. It was unfair to judge my product skills based on these unrelated questions. Are they expecting product managers to be engineers as well? That probably explains the lack of good experience of this product. I was very confused!!! Also, he was in general extremely judgmental and rude.. When I initially hopped on the zoom interview, I had my camera on along with my professional smile.. you know as you do when you are just excited for the opportunity and ready to give your best.. and when he got on the zoom, he just crushed all my innocent enthusiasm when he specifically told me that he doesn't want to see me and instructed me to turn off my camera.. that is just inhumane.. I expect hiring managers to make the candidates feel welcome and comfortable at least at the beginning of the interview. I mean don't you want to greet the other person in an interview at least? He was extremely curt in answering any questions that I had and all his answers had a tone of degrading meanness. I, as an interviewer, felt extremely uncomfortable and unwelcome and honestly discriminated. The interview was for a software engineer more than a product manager which also tells me a lot about their product. Cause if technical engineers are in charge of dealing with the product vision, it is probably gonna be a horrible product and maybe it isn't that great of a product due to this reason. The purpose of my review isn't to ruin the reputation of this person but to make candidates aware and prepared before being interviewed or possibly working at Pocket Gems especially for this person.

Application: I applied online and the process took 2 weeks in September 2021 Interview: As other reviews go, I was also given a take-home assignment a week after I applied for the position. What stood out to me was that there was no initial screening where I could discuss my background/interests and learn more about the company. However, I still moved ahead with the assignment which was supposed to take 2-4 hours. It took me more than 7-8 hours to do this assignment which was both fun and challenging. Everything was smooth until this point. The recruiter was active in communicating any deadlines and was responsive if an extension was needed. However, after submitting the assignment, the recruiter stopped replying to my emails. After a week, I got the standard rejection email without any feedback. I emailed them back asking for feedback because I feel that's the least any applicant deserves after investing hours in doing their assignment. I would recommend them to mention about the take-home assignment early in the interview process so that the applicants are prepared to go through this not-so-informational process.
