Store Lead called to arrange interview. Met with what I assume was the dept manager, right @ store opening. Office was basically a closet with other employees entering to get radios and cash tills, who also chimed in on conversation. Male interviewer was not prepared for an interview, had to print application & forms. He had not read my app/resume. He seemed to be challenged/intimidated by my experience, as he referred to his experience in hiring/managing/retail several times. I was resisting their suggestions for higher positions, so I don't think he could have thought of me as a job-threat. Only really asked me about 4 questions. Wrote a small paragraph at the bottom of the top sheet of the stack of forms he printed. Was very adamant about making sure that I understood that I did not have the position in the bag. However, he did pretty good at explaining how a job offer would proceed, if I was to be offered. Assured me that if I hadn't heard by the following Friday, I probably hadn't gotten the position. In a tone that you might use on a teenager, he told me that there is no reason to call him to find out the status of the position b/c he already knows I want the job by having applied. Which is true, however, the tone or attitude about it, wasn't necessary for this audience. I kind of think that there was a pre-determined bias that this is a job for a male, probably young-male. He did give me (& all other people he has ever interviewed) a chance to say anything else they thought he needed to know. I am out of practice @ interviews & didnt do well on the customer service aspect. I had a bit of anxiety flush due to amt of people in the space & wasn't feeling especially friendly. His serious demeanor gave me some hope that he would be better at reading me, being similar in personality. Not sure he even wanted to interview me, suspect Store Lead pushed it on him. Interview was 30 min. No feedback or follow up, afterwards.
