Entrevista
Website application followed by instore meet- n -greet initiated by me. Called- in within 3 days. Interviewed by two separate managers from two different stores during a 45-50 minute period. Both seemed to be unable to deviate from their scripts and lacked interpersonal skills needed to conduct effective interview so it felt I was being interviewed by amateurs at best. One was clearly more intimidated than the other even though I made every effort to put *them* at ease. As a loyal customer since their conversion from a pizza restaurant to a bank/coffee house and a coffee aficionado I got the impression I knew more about Peet's than they did especially since I had the privilege of meeting Alfred personally when he was alive and worked at Berkeley *1* many many years ago. When I mentioned this neither seemed particularly interested but felt the need to push forward with their robotic scripted Q&A session. I was a bit disappointed that neither interviewer could relax and be what Peet's stated culture expected of them. Perhaps the fact that my resume clearly showed experience that completely overshadowed both of them placed them in a position where they felt threatened and perhaps in my many attempts to add levity to the process made them feel as if I was a paternal figure they simply couldn't handle and yet had they bothered to escalate the process by checking references they would have discovered an extensive relevant background with high marks in both social interactions and the ability to coach people of diverse backgrounds with excellent results that enhanced operations on many levels. I don't think either interviewer knew how to properly handle an older applicant (48)with a working history longer than their ability to tie their shoes. Ironically all I wanted was a simple part time job in a place I loved going where I already knew 80% of the clientele of the individual store as well as several of the units in the adjacent towns.
