Be careful with the salary range they tell you at the beginning of the process, it is not real!
I was approached by a Payfit recruiter by LinkedIn. I asked for the salary range and I was told 75-130k€. I let him know the low end of the range was too low, but the middle would work fine.
Then I got a quick interview with HR, to check salary and a couple of basic questions to check my background. I told him I'd be interested in something around 100k. He said it was in range and was totally doable (twice, actually).
After that I had 3 interviews: one behavioural with the engineering director, one coding with the same director as well and one system design with an architect. Both were very friendly people, and also proposed interesting exercises.
Finally the problems begun. I was told by HR I had passed the process, and they asked again for the salary. I referred to the original conversation, in which I asked for 100k. I was told in this second HR conversation the range was not 75k-130k, but 75k-100k (did they lie in the first contact?) and he will try 90k-95k. "Ok" I said. An hour later they sent a message saying the offer was 70k-73k, less than the minimum of both provided ranges. They told me the range is 67k-80k.
30k€ less (!!) that what I asked and was confirmed as fine on the very first conversation!! So 3 different ranges in 3 different conversations. Maybe they just lie. Maybe they don't know the ranges and say something random in every conversation. I don't know which possibility is worst than the other tbh.
As I said, at least the technical people were great, very friendly and easy-going.
Be careful, it does not look like a serious company, or at least the HR department. A lot of time wasted here.
