      Entrevista

I am writing this before I get any input back on the interview, mostly because I would not want to work for the IT department after the so called "interview" they gave me. I don't want people to assume that I didn't get the job so I am bitter, I don't know if I would have gotten the job, because I also interviewed them as they interviewed me, and I would not hire them for my employment. Worst interview ever! It was more of a game of computer trivial pursuit. They asked questions that no one ever needs to know or cares to, and definitely has nothing to with the job. They tell you that you score 1 for a correct answer, -1 for incorrect or 0 for "I don't know". They never even asked about my technical skills, I guess they figure that if you don't know the obscure facts then you must not know how to be a server admin. After about 20 of these obscure facts you are kind of desperate and intimidated into at least answering a few. Fight the urge. They are also over confident in thinking that they are more technical than anyone else. I guess when you are in a small town, you tend to think there are not many options for IT people. What they forget is that an interview is a two way street, I am interviewing them as they are interviewing me. I understand that Paul Bunyan Communication is a really nice place to work, but I had also heard that the IT was less than stellar. If I did it all again, I would go in and just say I don't know to everything, and let them get to a point where it would be better to ask about my skills and what I have done in the past instead of those stupid trivial questions. There were 3 people in the interview, the HR person (who did ask real questions and seemed very competent) the IT manager and another IT person with pre-researched questions. The IT manager introduces the IT person and then later on, just to see if you are good at names, asks what her name is. This could be embarrassing if you didn't remember, and since most system engineers I know are not good at names, but are great with numbers. Sales people are good with names. If you want a technical person, you probably want someone who doesn't remember names, and it seems ridiculous to embarrass a person none-the-less. Obviously, this place needs new interviewers or at least to study how to interview. Ask questions like "how would you troubleshoot this problem" and give them a problem. You will find out more about the person, and how they work. Don't treat them like you are doing them a favor, remember that you are being interviewed at the same time. Have some fun with the person and don't make them feel uncomfortable. If you treat interviewees this way, you treat your employees worse.
