Someone from their HR contacted me, two months ago, and asked if I would be interested. I sent my resume and never heard them back, a month later the first contact the position was advertised again. I asked about my application and the very distracted person within the company finally agreed to have the initial call.
Over the phone I've been told more or less what other companies brag about their culture and mission. Pretty standard. Then I was invited to take an assignment.
The assignment was about writing a python script to parse a log file, and use SQLite to process the information contained. There were also some generic questions about distributed systems and very suspicious given answers. Seems the person who prepared the questions wasn't very prepared, they might ask ChatGPT.
I spent a couple of hours completing the assignment, it was done 100%. I answered correctly to every question, it would have been nice to have a discussion about it, but the company preferred to reiterate the advertising of this position and discard my application without further follow up or feedback.
They sent their HR to chat with potential developers and waste their time with the assignment, then they might decide to look at your code, but since they potentially have dozens of people for the same position, you have just to be lucky.
Now I've been ghosted, over the phone I remember the assignment was aligned more or less with the actual job.
If your dream is to parse logs, and you are usually very lucky, you might want to try. Be warned your time will only be wasted, they have to take care of other live stock that applies continuously.
On my time was just a total waste of time, they send their recruiters to invite you in this sort of rat race with the assignment, then they might decide to look at your code.
