After submitting my application through the online portal, I was contacted by the executive producer of the show I applied to. From there, I had three phone interviews. The first round was spent getting to know me. Corporate culture is huge at NPR so they want to be every employee is amicable and fits in. The conversation flowed really well and lasted about 45 minutes. A week later I was contacted for the second round and eventually a third. The latter interviews were strictly question based and I was interview by different people each time. I nearly broke down after each stage because I was so nervous and wanted to be selected so badly. The toughest part was the waiting game. Applications closed in October and I didn't get an offer until the near end of December. I had about three weeks to buy a plane ticket, find housing in D.C., alert my school and move halfway across the country for five months. It was well worth it, but still, a bit overwhelming. I thought I was out of the running so my offer was a surprise. Every department handles the hiring process differently, so if you apply to three departments, you could hear from one immediately and another months later.

Entrevista
It was a highly technical interview, there were no traditional interview questions. Posed hypothetical situations about copyright ownership and asked how you would respond or what advice you would give.
There were three rounds -- one by phone and two online with two editors/reporters each. The calls lasted about 30 minutes. I had the opportunity to ask questions at the end.

Why NPR? What's something about you that I wouldn't know from your application?
There was a initial interview with the manager and the senior person in my internship position asking more technical questions and then a couple other interviews with other people on the team.
