Two part interview process:
- first interview: one-on-one with a news executive. This one was a lot easier, they asked pretty basic questions to test your news/production knowledge and gague your interest in the program.
- After the one-on-one, I received a writing test. I was given basic facts, a press release, and maybe a few other materials,, and I was required to write a print story using all of these resources.
- Final interview was the most difficult. It was a panel interview with at least 10 different NBC News executives. Not gonna lie it was very intimidating and to date the scariest intv ive ever done.

This was definitely one of the harder interview processes I have been through. Make sure you devote a lot of time to your essays as they will come up later in the interview process. The first interview was more informal. I was tested on my news judgement and ethics with a bunch of "what if" scenarios. The purpose of that first interview is to establish whether you are passionate about news and what kind of addition you would bring to the program. Some behavioral questions required me to reflect back on stories I've produced. The second interview was.... intimidating to say the least. It was a 25 minute interview with a panel of 10 NBC News executives. They each took turns asking questions. These questions were a lot more difficult and I had to take time to think each through. Here are a few I remember: - if something like jan 6. were to happen again, how can journalists better respond? - how is AI going to affect the future of journalism? - how would you handle conflicting unverified claims that are newsworthy? - what role do you believe journalists have in covering gun violence? - how would you convince someone who has survived a terrorist attack to give NBC and exclusive interview? Those are just a few I remember. Come prepared with questions and bring an enthusiastic attitude.
