The hiring manager emailed me and asked if we could chat over the phone later that same day. I had a pretty hectic schedule that day, but I shiftrd some meetings around and we agreed upon a time. However, when the time came, she never called. I even emailed her asking if she'd like to reschedule and she never responded. Very bizarre and unprofessional.

My intelligence was insulted on a new level. Two executives from Multimedia Solutions questioned the validity of my resume, which I believe to be impressive for a marketer of over 7 years, but realistic. Spoiler alert: everything on my resume is true, valid, and real. In the same sentence before that ridiculous insult, they told me I was one of the best candidates they've ever interviewed. Talk about mixed signals. Additionally, I had freelance work on my resume (I was told my a professional career coach to include this, as it shows I am still keeping up my skills after being part of a large company layoff) and was told that I "could not be trusted" to not work freelance during normal work hours. Any professional who also does freelance work knows the importance of separating the two, being truthful, and giving your 110% to your day job. You focus on your own work AFTER hours, simple. Now you might think, "isn't freelance work a conflict of interest when you work for an agency?" I don't blame you for thinking that, I would too. However, the freelance work I do is light content creation for a local family-owned hair salon and a local family-owned pizza place in my home town, which I clearly stated to these executives interviewing me. Multimedia Solutions works with Fortune 100 companies across the country, I don't see this as a conflict of interest, do you? And another kicker (this one really added insight into the company culture for me), they told me I "shouldn't have any time" in my life for freelance work if I had a job with them. So, this tells me they want to control their employees' time outside of working hours. They claimed "you should be too busy for freelance, and your mental power should be focused on our clients." Well, when you pay me from 9-5, then during those 9-5 hours, I am focused on your clients. Any time after the workday is done is my own time. How dare you try to dictate what I can and cannot do with my life and career. And for an insanely low salary, I might add. Furthermore, the two executives chuckled after I told them I was laid off from my last company, and proceeded to tell me if they had a candidate like myself, they would never have laid me off. They insinuated that I was not laid off, and rather fired. Which again, is not true and I have multiple references from that company to prove it. My interview experience and the way the company culture was described made me want to run for the hills. Don't bother wasting your time with these unprofessional and unethical people. Read the interview review from July 21, 2023 for the Digital Marketing Manager position - that also resonates with my experience here.

I was under the impression by the employee reviews and first interview that this was a professional, decent, stable company to work for potentially. Unfortunately, this does not appear to be the case. If you want to give it a shot, I would advise weighing EVERYTHING carefully with this company. Be sure you look at how they responded to the one star reviews under benefits (they repeatedly put some "spam notice" that they are working with Glassdoor to rectify spammy reviews…. and are still up from at least 3 years ago….) And seriously consider all the negative interview reviews here and rightfully so. My experience: the position I applied to had an initial 30 minute interview covering my past experiences, what I've worked on in the past, basically a timeline. At the end of the interview the manager told me the interview process was 3 steps. They will tell you that the interview is a three-step process with a mock presentation at the end. They will state the salary range and ask your salary requirements. Ok, that's normal. The second interview is where you'll meet more execs of the company. Evaluate them carefully, and ask questions tactfully. They come across as meaningful, good-intended, thoughtful people, who emphasize how much they care about the people they hire and how they invest in their personal development. I can confirm that they did make rude remarks to me also about leaving my previous job -- trying to pass it off as a joke. They also made erroneous comments about my personality. At the very end, I felt more annoyed and confused why they decided to downplay how long I've been working--condescendingly saying "I know you've had a short career..." Wait, four years as a freelancer before transitioning into five years in house is a short career to you? They decided to say that at the end of a 2 hour second interview. Of course, they were proud to tout their 30 years of experience and low turnover and how they didn’t want someone to take the position to quit 3 years later at any chance they could get. Ok some of that is fair but things crossed the line/changed for the worse when they sent me on for a third interview. The mock presentation they said would be the third interview actually turned into a homework assignment that would easily be over 3 hours. They also wanted a separate meeting to negotiate salary and Q&A for the assignment. The assignment was to be a full strategy auditing one of their CURRENT clients (later they denied this was their client, however their copyright was in the footer) and 7 Instagram and LinkedIn additional posts for them with a full content calender delivered to them prior to the date of presentation. Interesting that a company in the industry for well over 30 years can't evaluate skills on a portfolio an needs to request a working interview for free. Many red flags after I declined and offered to go over samples of my portfolio, including verbiage such as "there are many who are willing to EARN the opportunity" and "it would only take 3-4 hours" ... check the reviews here- why was this exact position open in 2019 (it’s 2023 now) and why you are admitting you are not paying for 3-4 hours worth of work? They tried to explain that since they are deriving no value from it, they don't need to pay. I wonder if they refuse to pay their employees when they don't use their work. I don't know who is writing their Glassdoor reviews but I don't think I need to stay more. Any true self respecting professional in the field needs no other warning here. RUN.

We appreciate your feedback and find it regrettable that you had a negative impression during the interview process. We do have a rigorous and selective interview process in order to ensure it’s a good fit on both sides. Additionally, because this was a final assessment stage for us (which is a demonstration of our interest), this is the reason we wanted to have a discussion with you on salary expectations before you embarked upon the presentation effort to ensure it would be a good use of your time. Due to our carefulness with hiring decisions, we have learned through many years of experience that this process really helps candidates understand not just the work at hand but also our approach to client service and our company culture. We have also found it rare that applicants did not find the exercise useful in their own professional growth, regardless of the hiring outcome. As for the time involved, we leave it up to the candidates discretion, although we do inform them it can take a couple to a few hours of their time to be optimally prepared. The work is theoretical so it is not used for our benefit. Having said that, it’s better to know these type of disconnects early on and agree it was not a good fit in the end. We wish you the best in your future endeavors.
